Waiting on the Divine Timetable

What are the consequences when we take a desire out of its proper time? What happens when we allow emotion to rule our minds, and not Christ? We mess things up, mistakes happen and we lose control.

“There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven… A time to cry and a time to laugh…A time to love and a time to hate...”
- Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4 and 8

Too often people feel as though they are wasting time in school. For some this might be true, yet for others it is a useful tool that they will not be able to survive in a job without it.
I see students getting discouraged because they see what they are meant to do, yet are stuck in school learning things that might not always apply to them and where they are going. It is frustrating when I see this because in every moment there is an opportunity to grow and become more than you currently are. In every class there is something to learn. What is also frustrating about this attitude of wasting time is that it becomes real. When students think that they are wasting time, they start actually doing it. Instead of getting involved around campus or speaking up in class they go hide in their rooms or play games on their computers. It is frustrating when students simply give up because they are not getting what they want, when they want it.
In truth, each person needs to remain focused on the cross and what it represents in his life; the fact that Christ comes before all and is placed above all. Even when it seems like the right time for something, sometimes it is not. No matter how much you want it to happen; sometimes it is better to wait. The majority of the time we can only see a small portion of the big picture, and while that seems to be perfect, in reality it is not. Yet, when standing on the edge of a cliff, how hard is it to fight gravities pull? How hard is it to say no to the desires that we face every day? It takes will power, determination and trust that the right time will come later. This applies to everyday situations, from relationships to jobs to school. With God’s strength we are able to fight the desires that pull us down. We are able to soar on wings of eagles because Christ’s strength and grace is more than sufficient, it is perfect!

“Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faith.”
- Isaiah 40:31

We press on knowing that God has a plan; knowing that his timing, his purpose is perfect! He is never early and never late. We press on with hope of tomorrow. When we walk in step with him, the thoughts and desires of our heart and soul will be in line with his. He will give the strength to wait. He will give hope and peace that only he can grant.

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.”
-John 14:27

Therefore, perfect peace takes over us and we can relax in trust; knowing that we can rely on him and follow his lead. In doing that we are enabled to lead others and share his love with them. That is our purpose, to lead and disciple others, showing them who Christ is and what he is able to do. This causes us to wait on our desires. We wait in hope and peace, knowing that God’s timing is perfect and that in him and through him, we can do anything.
